Creamy Barytocalcite crystals upto 6 mm, from the type locality of The Blagill Mine,near Alston.
Mined for centuries, the name is of Saxon origin, meaning Lead Valley. Saxon miners were invited to England in the time of Elizabeth the first ( 1533 - 1603 ) to bring thier,then, relatively advanced mining " technology" , to develop England's mineral wealth. One of the Saxons was Daniel Hoechstetter,who developed the Roughton Gill mine.
6.5 cms tall by 4.5 cms by 4 cms.
