WITHERITE FROM THE BOUNDARY CROSS VEIN, RAMPGILL MINE,NENTHHEAD,ALSTON MOOR,
CUMBERLAND.

Fresh translucent Witherite crystals, upto 3cms, sat on botryoidal Barytocalcite, with a 2 cm. double-terminated Witherite crystal to the centre. 10 cms by 8 cms by 3 cms.
Unaltered Witherites from Alston Moor such as this one are very scarce ,and especially so, from this late 1700's early 1800's locality.
Recovered in the 1990's by mine explorers from this very remote old underground lead working from the actual contact area of the fluorite and baryte zones in the "Alston Block".
