7551.SPHALERITE PSEUDOMORPHING FLUORITE. BOUNDARY CROSS VEIN, RAMPGILL MINE,NENTHEAD, ALSTON MOOR,CUMBRIA,ENGLAND.

This very rare specimen of Sphalerite pseudomorphing 2 cm.Fluorite crystals, was recovered in the 1990's by underground mine explorers, from remote early 1800's lead workings, in The Rampgill Mine on Alston Moor.
Overlaid with bright micro Quartz crystals, upto 1 cm. twinned Sphalerites and 4mm fluorite crystals. The Sphalerite is clearly exposed through the Quartz at some of the crystal corners. There has been some peripheral injuries but it was deep in a mine for 200 years waiting to be discovered ! 12 by 9 by 7 cms tall.
